All in one day! The Meteor Crater is just outside Flagstaff. It is the largest, best preserved impact crater in the world. Happened millions of years ago but is important today. U. S. Astronauts trained for moon walks at the crater. They say 2 million people can watch 20 football games at the same time in the crater. Let's just say it is big!
Petrified Forest N. P. and a section of the painted desert are administered as a joint park. Both are petrified materials. One wood the other sand. Now both rock. Again color makes the impression. It is said that 1 ton of petrified wood is stolen from the park each month despite dire warnings. Allowing for the fact that the wood is very dense, this is a disappointing fact. Drove to Chinle after these stops. Busy day.
