Bud flew to Boston on the red eye and I spent the night atomic Holiday Inn at the airport last night. So had an hour start on the trip to Pendleton. You have to get through the Cascades. Route 90 goes over the Snoqualmie Pass at about 3900 feet. Temps there were 33 degrees with brief snow flurries. Lots of rain and fog. Mountains until around Ellensburg a bit before Yakima then the terrain becomes high, hilly and dry. Lots of orchards and vineyards. At Richland you head south crossing the Columbia River. From there to Pendleton you are high and relatively flat on the Columbia River Plateau. This is part of the old Oregon Trail. I choose Pendleton because it made sense mileagewise and I wanted to visit the Pendleton Woolen Mill and Mill Store. I spent alot of money there but when leaving the store a rain and hail storm blew over and created a rainbow in front of my car. The gods smiled on my purchases.
